The Depths - Looking at the Vision and the Scope

So as things are starting to come together for the dungeon generation, I have been thinking more about what type of game I want to make.  As well as what type of game mechanics are going to work well in the environment that I am working in (Furcadia).  Although you can work with a timer clock and try to make things real time, I have noticed that I tend to lag a lot when I am playing.  This could become troublesome if I am making a real time game.  And though I don't know if it is just my bad connection or the game itself.  I think it would be better if I made the game towards what I experience.  That way it will be accessible to more people.  And it will be a lot easier to create smoother game play.

You are probably thinking, that's all well and good but what does that mean for the game.  Well it means that I am going to make a turn based type combat with timed elements to keep the game moving.  When the player moves through the level along with their friends they will not have any limitations on how fast they move around the map.   But when they run into an enemy this will start an encounter and like in D&D each entity will roll for initiative.  This will also be weighed against a speed stat which will determine how many actions that can be taken in a turn.  This includes moving around or attacking or casting a spell.   There will also be a limit to the amount of time that you can choose your actions before it passes to the next player or monster.  This type of game play will lend itself to more thoughtful strategy rather than any type of hack and slash.  All while keeping any encounter from taking to long or someone afk-ing in the middle of combat or a dungeon.

As far as the current planned scope of the game is pretty small, though as time goes on it may grow.  I am a single person making this as a hobby and I am trying to keep a reasonable pace and expectations for my game.  So far I have been able to meet all my goals that I set myself for any given week.  Some features that I am planning on adding in the future are a custom UI, three classes, currency to by training in classes, an equipment setup in ui as well as a small inventory.  Music and more art are in the works as well.

I don't usually make midweek updates, but I had a lot of time to think about what see this game as, what I want it to be.  And I am really excited for what I have accomplished and what is still to come.  If you want to play what I have finished so far it is in Furcadia on Allegria Island.  The portal is titled The Depths.
